Why the oceans matter?

The oceans cover 72% of our planet. Every breath we take and every drop of water we drink is somehow connected to the ocean. It gives us more than 1/2 of the oxygen we breath and regulates the climate. The ocean provides us a source of seafood, which we eat quite a lot of, and also gives us recreational opportunities such as surfing and diving.
Why oceans are at risk?

While on land 12% are protected as national reserves, less than 1% of the oceans are protected. Humans have started harming the ocean. 90% of big fish are lost in the sea possibly due to overfishing. The coral reefs are declining because of the climate change. Humans have actually caused these harms to the oceans.
Why people are ignorant to the risk?

People are ignorant to the risk because they don’t realize that their actions are affecting the oceans severely. They think that it is okay to continue doing what they are doing, when the ocean is actually damaged quite badly. These people aren’t aware of what they are doing when they buy seafood from the ocean, or when they throw waste into the ocean. They don’t realize that when the oceans are affected badly by these risks, they might also be affected.
What must be done?

People must be educated on the harm they are doing to the ocean. They must be made aware of their actions and the severity of the damage done into the ocean right now. This can be done through campaigning and raising awareness through movies, videos, posters, and other things.
